About HIC

As an international congregation in Hamburg, our calling is to Encounter God, Grow Community and Live Missionally. (Read more about HIC´s vision and values here)

Hamburg International Church is a small but growing Christian community with a strong focus on children and young people. We are an intercultural, English speaking church with members from various denominational backgrounds, and are affiliated with the United Methodist Church

We meet at Schillerstrasse 31, in Altona, on the west side of Hamburg.

However, we are MOVING!

Easter Sunday will be the first Sunday at our new location in Eimsbüttel. (Eimsbüttler Chaussee 67, 20259.)
Please join us there at 10am on April 21st for our welcome reception from the current congregation. Our usual service time will be Sundays at 9.30am.

We would love to welcome you one Sunday. We hope to see you soon!

What to expect at HIC?

We hope you feel at home in our vibrant and welcoming church family.

Our worship services last a little over an hour. Please come as you are. No dress code!

We worship in English with a mix of traditional and modern music.

Children are welcome to stay in the service, or are invited upstairs to Kids Church.

Once a month we take Communion together at the end of our Worship Service.

Pastor Edgar

Pastor Edgar Lüken lived and ministered in Africa for 11 years before he came to Hamburg in 2015.

Having served in an international City Mission Church in Windhoek, Namibia and after (literally) building churches in Malawi he comes with a deep understanding for intercultural challenges.

Encountering the greatness of God in the diversity of people is his passion.
He is married to Inke Johannsen and they have two children, aged 10 and 13. Edgar enjoys hot summer days, canoeing, vintage cars, football, glamping, and is a chocolate addict…
